CURRENT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The Loremaster
Introduction
The team at Brightstone Books is creating an immersive experience for their flagship mythopoeic dark fantasy series, Mystic. Beginning with traditional print books, the project extends to a soundscape audiobook with a full voice cast, original soundtrack, and atmospheric sound effects. Additionally, weekly 5-minute visual episodes of the soundscape audiobook will be released on YouTube, using concept art from notable fantasy artists to bring an added layer of immersion. At the same time, the interactive ebook app will provide a more hands-on approach, with embedded links within the story to additional lore, maps, and character backgrounds, all to envelop the reader more fully into the world. Beyond these core projects, Brightstone Books also has plans for a documentary-style lore video series, interactive role-playing experiences, and more.
The Loremaster of House Brightstone
You, as the Loremaster, are the grand lorekeeper of Atha. Everything that enters the official archive runs through you first. From dates to language, you ensure logic, timelines, and cultures stay consistent, thus keeping the internal logic of the series sound. Because of your knowledge of Atha, your worldbuilding skills are also held in high esteem. You’ll assist with building languages, dialects, and regional speech patterns used throughout Atha. This includes designing and developing a lexicon to assist other lore writers.
Analytical Role: Archivist
Receives finalized character lore, articles, and historical content from the team. Reviews each submission for internal consistency, accuracy, and alignment with existing canon. Works to resolve contradictions, clarify ambiguous details, and document any new developments in the story.
Maintains records including timelines, glossaries, pronunciation guides, and character ancestry, etc. Reviews entries for the public lore site, redacting spoilers and verifying all materials match the internal archive. Assists the team by supplying references or clarifying facts as needed, if requested.
Compensation: $30/hr
Creative Role: Worldbuilding (Linguistics)
Assists with developing languages within Atha. Designs dialects, slang, and cultural expressions that reflect the beliefs, histories, and interactions of each region. Constructs regional variation, deciding how location, ancestry, and social position shape how people speak.
Creates core systems for the languages, including grammar, phonology, vocabulary, and context of use. Builds them to serve narrative and cultural purpose—not just as ornament, but as functional parts of the world.
Advises on how names are or were formed, how formal and informal speech differ, and how rituals or traditions influence spoken language. Provides documentation such as pronunciation guides, example phrases, and usage rules that can be applied across writing, voice acting, and performance.
May also be involved with:
• Preparing pronunciation guides for voice actors
• Mapping linguistic drift across timelines or regions
• Reviewing or drafting entries for the language section of the lore wiki
Compensation: $30/hr
Business Role: Optional
Suggested: Forgemaster
(See The Forgemaster)
For other business roles available if desired, see the Hiring FAQ.
Team Meetings
Attendance at quarterly in-person meetings in Salt Lake City is optional for this role. If needed, you’ll be patched in via Zoom for relevant segments. If we do decide we need you present, we’ll cover all travel and accommodations—but this would be a rare occurrence.
Hours & Compensation
Monthly compensation: $30/hr for Archivist and $30/hr for Linguistics, per the roles above. 25 hours for each role. Additional business role compensation is outlined above under “Business Role.”
Hours: You may choose how many hours you want to work when you apply, up to 25 hours per month per role — but the hours must be equal across both roles. For example, if you choose 25 hours for Creative, then Analytical must also be 25 hours, totaling 50 hours. In this position, hourly pay applies only to your Creative and Analytical roles, as the Business role is compensated based on your results each month or, if Forgemaster, it is a set rate. Full-time paid hours are only available after you’ve been with us for 6–12 months.
How to Apply
Provide a resume or a summary of relevant experience and education. Introduce yourself and briefly explain why you believe you'd be a good fit for the Loremaster position, specifically referencing the roles mentioned above. Be sure to include how many hours you'd like to work per month, as outlined above. Submit your application to careers@brightstonebooks.com with the subject line “The Loremaster Application.”
