The Herald
Media Director
Brightstone Books is looking for a skilled and creative individual with a strong passion for the fantasy genre. Our first novel in the Mystic dark fantasy series is in the pre-publishing phase and has already earned praise from top creatives who have worked with Marvel and Blizzard.
We're building a comprehensive fantasy brand through crowdfunding and multiple creative channels. Our vision includes:
Traditional book publishing
Full cast soundscape audiobooks with original soundtrack
Interactive eBooks with in-depth lore, maps, and imagery
YouTube channel with episodic content, including lore docuseries
Live events
RPG online platform
Social media presence
Merchandise
PR and marketing campaigns
As the Herald, you will direct the audiobook, video productions, and animated lore content for the Mystic universe. This includes overseeing voice performances across audiobooks and animated lore videos to ensure consistency and quality. You will also contribute to developing promotional and narrative-driven video content, seeing those ideas through from concept to execution.
Prime Responsibilities
Audio Production Director
Inspire and guide actors to deliver their best performances, ensuring they fully embody the author’s vision across all media. And when applicable, collaborate with the sound designer and composer to create a cohesive auditory experience.
Video Content Director
Oversee video production, directing videography and performances for docuseries, interviews, trailers, and promotional content.
Work with editors and sound designers to ensure cohesion between audio and visual content across all platforms.
Shape visual storytelling, applying techniques from film and television to enhance scene composition, pacing, lighting, and visual symbolism.
Guide cinematographers and editors to create seamless, emotionally-driven narratives.
Brand Consistency
Ensure all audio and video content aligns with the author's vision, maintaining consistency in tone, pacing, and storytelling across all projects while collaborating with the team to execute the overarching narrative.
What We're Looking For
Passion for fantasy – A deep love for fantasy storytelling, world-building, and mythic themes, with an appreciation for immersive, atmospheric narratives.
A cinematic storyteller – Strong instinct for visual composition, shot selection, pacing, and emotional depth, ensuring high-quality, immersive narratives.
A skilled director – Experience guiding actors, cinematographers, and editors, bringing out nuanced performances and maintaining a cohesive artistic vision.
Expertise in film, theater, or digital media – Knowledge of performance direction, post-production workflows (editing, sound design, VFX), and cinematic techniques.

Compensation
$25/hr, 30 hours per month on average - (First month may be 40-45 hours)
Generous performance-based bonuses
This role has significant potential for increased compensation and may evolve into a full-time position for the right candidate who demonstrates exceptional value and alignment with our vision.
Team Meetings
This position is Utah-based only at this time, as you will be working closely with the videographer and other local team members. In-person team meetings will be held at least quarterly at our office in Salt Lake City, though this may vary depending on our needs.

Application Process
Our hiring process consists of three rounds, with candidates being narrowed down at each stage. Applications will be accepted from March 8th until April 8th 2025, but we may conclude the process sooner if we find the right candidates to move forward. You will be notified if you have advanced to the second round.
If you advance to the second round, we’ll share more details about our fantasy series and upcoming projects. This stage will also involve a deeper evaluation of your skills and vision for the role.
